FSU College of Education among the nation’s top online graduate programs in Education

Stone building entranceThe Florida State University College of Education’s online graduate program continues to rank among the best in the nation at No. 13. The college offers online programs in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership/administration, instructional systems and learning technologies, and learning and cognition.

“Our continued position as one of the top online graduate programs in the country demonstrates our commitment to providing students with an outstanding educational experience,” said Marcy Driscoll, dean of the College of Education. “We continue to offer innovative online programs, such as our M.S. in curriculum and instruction and our Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy, that suit the needs of professionals in the field of education.”

The methodology for assessing online programs included factors such as student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation and admissions selectivity.

Dean Marcy Driscoll to deliver keynote address for AECT 2017 Convention

Dr. Marcy P. Driscoll, dean of the FSU College of Education, was recently selected to deliver the opening keynote address for the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) 2017 International Convention, entitled “Leading Learning for Change.” The conference will be held in Jacksonville, Florida November 7 – 11.

“She is a visionary scholar who will encourage us to think deeply as leaders about learning in the emerging technology enhanced learning world,” remarked Dr. Eugene Kowch, president-elect of AECT.

It is an interesting challenge that I couldn’t refuse and I look forward to some stimulating conversation,” said Driscoll. 

Driscoll is the Past President of AECT, having served from 2000 – 2001. She is currently a member of the Design and Development, and Research and Theory divisions of the organization.

2015 COE Technology Showcase to demonstrate education technology

Join the FSU College of Education for the 2015 COE Technology Showcase on Wednesday, October 28th to see and interact with all of the latest technology we have to offer. Experience hands-on learning, live demonstrations, and see all the exciting ways to enhance teaching, assessment, and learning with technology.

This event is part of College of Education Week 2015 and will take place from 12-4PM at different locations around the Stone building. Many devices demonstrated at the 2015 COE TechShowcase are purchased with tech fees funding and will be a great demonstration of student money at work. We will have demonstrations and hands-on activities with devices from the COE Tech Sandbox, Sport Psych Lab, and FSUS remote observation of teaching.

Selected highlights include:

  • 3D printing live demo (MakerBot)
  • 3D devices
  • Oculus Rift
  • Interactive White Boards
  • Osmo
  • TeachLive
  • Visual attention technology: Stroboscopic glasses, SMI Eye-Tracker, and NeuroTracker
  • Remote observation of teaching with FSUS (we will see 3rd graders learning Maths)
  • Sphero
  • Chinese CUBES
  • AAC devices
  • iPad cart
  • Stattransfer

In addition, there will be posters and videos prepared by College of Education students and faculty.

College of Education to participate in FSU Digitech

Tomorrow, April 1st, is the FSU Annual Digitech in Turnbull Center. College of Education participants and technologies will be in room 101 from 10:00am – 4:00pm with the Awards Ceremony taking place from 4:00pm – 5:00pm.

COE exhibits include:

11:00am – 4:00pm

Tech Sandbox devices, google glass, biofeedback equipment, 3D, LiveScribe Pen, Osmo, Leap Motion, Magic Cube, Xbox, Kinect, Oculus Rift, Sphero, virtual reality demo, screen-casting, and more.

11:00am – 1:30pm

Remote observation of teaching with FSUS (3rd Grade, Ms. Robin Krause).

In addition, the College of Education has two projects competing online in Digitech 2015. Both both projects were created by students in the Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies program and supervised by Dr. Vanessa Dennen.
